About Me
Hello! My name is Nadra, I am a Syrian-American who grew up in Michigan. I am currently a junior at a private Islamic school. For two years now, I have been the captain of the basketball team. Additionally, I received the ‘defensive player of the year’ award, given to me by my coach at the end of the season. I am involved in many organizations, some being: Peer to Peer, National Honor Society and Student Government Organization. I am currently undecided about my major, but I have an interest in engineering (in the computer science field), culinary arts, and being a veterinarian.

Why This Topic
Growing up going to a private school, I took the Islamic environment for granted. As a child, I hadn't realized how blessed I was to be surrounded by fellow Muslims. However, I slowly began noticing my school mates transferring to a public school, and in the process, loosing some of their religious values. For this reason, I believe that it is very important to spread awareness about societal conformity, and learn to build a strong character.

To The Judges
Dear Judges,
My name is Nadra, and I am an early graduate at Michigan Islamic Academy. I am a person of diverse interests, so, naturally, I don’t have a set field of study. Instead, I have three: engineering, culinary arts, and veterinary. My senior project idea, societal conformity in Muslim youth, started out as a simple observation. I saw many of my previous schoolmates changing and losing some of their Islamic values as they transferred to public schools. So in response to this problem, I thought I should do my part as a young Muslim, and bring this matter into the light. Through this process and my research, I learned the most from my survey results. It showed me a different response than I had anticipated, which pleasantly surprised me.
Lastly, I would like to take a moment to sincerely thank each and every one of you. Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to reflect upon and review, not only my but all my peers’ senior projects. This is a crucial time for all of us getting ready to transition to college. So I thank you for sharing our last project as highschool students with us. May God bless you for your hard work and willingness to help with our final project. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Nadra Harbali
